The Archives of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (APPS) publishes all articles under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, as set out on the journal’s Licensing Policy and reinforced by the Open Access Policy. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right to publish.

Primary sources: Licensing Policy, Open Access Policy, CC BY 4.0.

1) Author Copyright & Journal License to Publish

In line with APPS policies, authors retain copyright in their works. By submitting to and publishing with APPS, authors grant the journal a non-exclusive license to publish the version of record and to disseminate it under the CC BY 4.0 license. These terms allow the widest distribution and reuse while ensuring proper attribution to the authors and the journal.

2) What CC BY 4.0 Permits

CC BY 4.0 is a permissive license that enables broad reuse of published material, provided attribution is given. The table below summarizes typical scenarios under the APPS licensing framework.

Use Case Allowed? Conditions Where Stated
Read, download, share the article Yes Free to all users Open Access Policy
Adapt, remix, or build upon the work Yes Credit the authors and journal; indicate changes Licensing Policy, CC BY 4.0
Commercial reuse (e.g., textbooks, training materials) Yes Attribution required; third-party content may have different terms Licensing Policy
Text & data mining Yes Respect privacy and other applicable restrictions Open Access Policy
Reuse of third-party figures/tables in an APPS article Depends Check figure captions/credit lines; obtain permission if not under CC BY Licensing Policy

Always include the article’s DOI and a link to the version of record when reusing or sharing content.

3) Self-Archiving & Repository Posting

The Open Access Policy and Licensing Policy indicate that authors may deposit accepted and/or published versions in institutional, subject, or funder repositories consistent with CC BY 4.0, including personal or laboratory websites. When depositing, include the citation and DOI of the version of record and preserve any credit lines for third-party materials.

  • Deposit the accepted manuscript or final published PDF/HTML with the DOI and canonical link.
  • Observe any third-party permissions noted in figure captions or acknowledgments.

4) Third-Party Material & Permissions

Some content included within APPS articles may not be owned by the authors or may be licensed under terms other than CC BY 4.0. These items will normally be identified in captions or credit lines. Users wishing to reuse such material must obtain permission from the rights holder if their intended use is not covered by the referenced license or statutory exceptions.

  • Check credit lines for images, datasets, scales, or proprietary content.
  • Request permission where required; retain proof of permission with your records.

5) Data, Software & Supplementary Materials

Where authors provide datasets, code, or other supplementary items, those materials should be accompanied by a clear license statement. If no separate license is stated, readers should assume the article’s CC BY 4.0 applies only to the article text and figures, and check repository records or author notes for the applicable terms on data or code.

6) Funding Mandates & Compliance

CC BY 4.0 facilitates compliance with many funder and institutional open-access mandates requiring immediate availability and broad reuse. Authors should include funder names and grant numbers during submission to aid metadata deposit and discovery.

7) Article Processing Charges (Context)

APPS is an open-access journal with no submission fees. An Article Processing Charge (APC) is payable upon acceptance to cover editorial and publishing services. The current APC is listed on the journal’s APC page.

Item Amount (USD) Where Stated
Standard APC (APPS) $2,949 Article Processing Charges

8) How to Attribute APPS Articles

When reusing content, include the following elements where possible: author(s) name(s); article title; journal name; year; volume/issue (if applicable); page range or article ID; and the DOI. Indicate if changes were made. Example format:

Attribution example: “Reused from: Doe J, Rao P, Kim S. Stabilizing amorphous dispersions via excipient synergy. Archives of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. 2025;9(2):e123. https://doi.org/10.xxxx/apps.2025.123. Licensed under CC BY 4.0.”

9) Permissions & Questions

For questions about rights, reuse of specific figures/tables, or repository posting, please contact the editorial office. If your intended reuse involves third-party materials not under CC BY, you must obtain permission from the relevant rights holder before proceeding.
